Fabric Weight Guide
oz/GSM Conversion & Selection Guide
Fabric weight is the #1 spec that determines how your tote bag looks, feels, and wears over time. Most competitors never mention it — here's what you need to know.
Quick Conversion: oz/yd² → GSM
Formula: GSM = oz/yd² × 33.906
Weight Selection by Application
Lightweight, foldable, cost-efficient. Best for events and mass distribution.
The classic tote weight. Substantial without being bulky. Bookstores, boutiques, daily errands.
Stands on its own. Handles heavier loads. Supermarket and farmers market standard.
The sweet spot. Best drape, structure, and hand-feel. Justifies a higher retail price.
Canvas that lasts a decade. For luxury brands and workwear applications.
Pro tip: Always request physical swatches before production. Fabric weight (GSM) should be confirmed via independent lab test — we provide GSM test reports with each PP sample. Never rely on supplier claims alone.
Not sure which weight? Tell us your use case — we'll recommend two options with cost delta.

Printing Cost Guide
What Your Branding Method Actually Costs
Transparent cost ranges so you can budget accurately before sampling. Most factories won't share this until you're deep in negotiation.
Screen Printing
Best for: bold logos with 1–4 solid Pantone colors. Lowest per-unit cost at scale. Not for photorealistic designs.
DTF / Heat Transfer
Best for: full-color designs, gradients, small runs. No color count limit. Slight texture feel on fabric surface.
Digital Print
Best for: small-batch, photorealistic, single-unit prototyping. No setup fees. Highest per-unit cost at scale.
Break-even guidance: At 300+ units with 1–4 colors, screen printing wins on cost. For full-color designs or gradients, DTF/heat transfer is your best value. Digital print is ideal for samples and prototyping — not production runs.
Ranges are for budgeting; final quote is line-item by print size, fabric, and qty.

Six milestone-driven stages refined over 10 years manufacturing tote bags for 100+ brands across 40 countries.
Design Consultation
48-hour design reviewShare your sketches, reference images, or tech pack. Our tote-focused design team maps materials, dimensions, printing methods, and functional features within 48 hours. We identify cost-saving construction improvements before sampling begins.
Material & Print Sampling
Physical swatchesWe ship physical material swatches and print strike-offs on your chosen fabric. Compare canvas weights, cotton textures, RPET weaves, and jute finishes side-by-side. Approve Pantone color accuracy and print placement with actual samples — not digital mockups.
Prototype Production
10–14 day sampleA fully functional pre-production sample built with your selected materials, handles, lining, and branding. Ships within 10–14 days with multi-angle photography and inspection notes. Iterate on strap drop, pocket placement, gusset depth, and closure feel until the sample is right.

How to Verify Your Certifications
Don't take eco-claims at face value. Here's how to confirm them.
Request SC + TC from your supplier
The Scope Certificate (SC) proves the factory is audited. The Transaction Certificate (TC) proves your specific order uses certified materials. Both are required — SC alone is not enough.
Validate on the Textile Exchange portal
Enter the certificate number at textileexchange.org/verify. Each legitimate GOTS and GRS certificate is registered here. If it doesn't appear, it's not valid.
Cross-check the Certification Body (CB)
Verify the CB that issued the cert is accredited — major CBs include Control Union, Ecocert, SGS, and Intertek. Unknown or obscure CBs are a red flag.
Match TC details with your invoice & BL
The TC should reference the same product description, quantity, and shipment details as your commercial invoice and bill of lading. Mismatches indicate the cert doesn't cover your actual order.
Red flags: Expired SC dates · CB you can't find online · Supplier unwilling to share TC before shipment · TC details that don't match your order specifications.
60%+ of our fabric library is eco-certified with full traceability documentation.

Real Feedback from Real Customers
"Our retail tote line used to come from a local supplier — the difference showed up in the first order. Print registration stayed consistent across 3,000 units, and the canvas felt the same on bag #1 and bag #3,000.
The same tote runs across 40+ storefronts, so consistency isn't a nice-to-have. After we locked the PP sample and the AQL checks, our return rate dropped below 2%."
Peter Weber
Head of Merchandising, UrbanThread Retail
"A global conference needed 2,500 branded totes — premium look, a hard date, and delivery straight to the venue. No room for a customs surprise.
The factory managed the entire process from material selection to customs clearance. The bags arrived on-site 4 days before the event, packed and ready to hand out."
Michael Johnson
E-commerce Ops Manager, PeakSummit Gear
"As a DTC brand scaling from 500 to 5,000 units a quarter, consistency was our biggest fear. Batch drift would have shown up in reviews within weeks.
Each batch came back identical, and shipping to our 3PL saved us countless hours on logistics."
Rachel Lin
Founder, Everwild Co.
"Our organic grocery chain needed 8,000 GOTS-certified totes with compartment dividers for produce — and the certification paperwork had to be perfect, not promised.
Full chain-of-custody documentation came with the order, and everything arrived two weeks ahead of schedule."

Common Questions
Tote Bag Manufacturing FAQs
1. What factors determine the cost of custom tote bags?
Tote bag pricing depends on five main factors: material (cotton vs canvas vs RPET — heavier fabrics cost more), dimensions and gusset depth, printing method and color count (screen printing is cheapest at scale, DTG costs more per unit), order quantity (larger volumes amortize setup costs), and functional add-ons like zippers, pockets, and reinforced handles.
2. What file formats do you need for my logo or artwork?
Vector files work best — AI, EPS, or PDF with fonts outlined. If you only have a raster image, a high-resolution PNG at 300 DPI or higher at final print size covers most print methods. We confirm the exact format after seeing your design.
3. Can you match an existing sample or replicate a bag I already sell?
Yes. Send a physical sample or detailed photos with measurements — we reverse-engineer the construction, confirm fabric weight and hardware, and build an exact-match prototype. This is how most brands switch production without changing their product.
4. What packaging options are available for my tote bags?
Standard single-bag polybags, with retail-ready options on request — kraft boxes, hang tags, barcode stickers, and custom-printed cartons. Folding methods and polybag branding can be specified to match your retail requirements.
5. Can you produce my tote bags under my own brand name?
Yes. As an OEM/ODM manufacturer, we build totes entirely under your brand — your labels, your logo placement, no factory marks on the finished product. The bags carry your name, and your name only.
